Our Carbon Neutral Brand Launch
We don’t like to brag, but we’re all about sustainability at ASAI. From minimising plastic and waste to collaborating with the community to support local businesses, we’re weaving awareness of our impact right into the DNA of ASAI and we wanted to emphasise our commitment to our environment, right from the get-go. So, when we planned our launch party, we made sure it was not only as sustainable as possible, but carbon neutral (and fun, too). How? Excellent question.
Carbon neutrality means achieving net zero carbon emissions by measuring the amount of carbon released and balancing it out with an equivalent amount sequestered or offset, and buying enough carbon credits to make up the difference.
That means we had to measure all the ways and by how much our party would produce carbon dioxide. Those activities included cooking, electricity consumption, paper, waste (food, fabric paper etc) and transportation, including the how guests travelled to the event.
First we looked at those activities and found ways to minimise the emissions they would create, then we measured what was left, using an online calculator. Then we bought carbon credits to offset the remaining emissions; we got a certificate from Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (TGO) to prove it!
So, we had a carbon neutral party and guess what? It was really fun! There was no plastic, all our food was served on biodegradable plates, lots of our drinks were organic and food waste was used for compost.
