What is it that makes Japanese design impactful across the globe?

Japan Foundation, in collaboration with Thailand Creative & Design Center (TCDC) under Creative Economy Agency (Public Organization): CEA, is proudly presenting the exhibition “Japanese Design Today 100” reflecting Japanese tradition that goes with latest innovation and connects to the digital world. The exhibition charts the course of 100 Japanese products and designs that reveal the characteristics of Japanese design and proposes the society with the creative works that truly understands the user’s need.

After traveling across the globe in the past 10 years, the exhibition “Japanese Design Today 100” was revised by accumulating a series of contemporary products with the classic products created between 1950 – 1990 which is the period that Japanese design influenced the design world. Categorized into 11 groups by its functionality, the exhibition showcasing 89 finest Japanese contemporary designs and 11 creative works that represents the design in this era and reflects the true understanding in material and innovation for Japanese everyday life.

KILORUN is divided into 2 categories:

1. KG (Kilogram)
For KG (Kilogram), the walk & run route that measured by Kilograms. Along with the iconic attractions, Runners will get a chance to taste the signature dishes around the city. After tasted the dishes, the runners who gain weight will receive the special KG medal. And that’s where the KG Run comes from.

2. KM (Kilometre)
The KM (Kilometre), Runners will get a chance to experience the culture, architectures and the view of iconic attractions along the route, which are divided into 2 distances; M (medium) Run 5.5 KM, and L (long) Run 10 KM

NEILSON HAYS LIBRARY OPENS ITS DOORS IN SEMI-ANNUAL BOOK SALE NEXT MONTH
Thousands of second-hand books available from Bangkok’s largest collection of English language titles

Neilson Hays Library, a Bangkok institution renowned for its collection of over 20,000 English language books for its bi-annual book sale.
Locals, ex-pats and tourists alike are invited to select from thousands of fiction and non-fiction books in English, plus a selection of other languages, donated by Neilson Hays Library supporters or withdrawn from the library shelves. The popular fundraiser offers books in all genres, prices start at 20 baht, with a few rare books going at market value. Paper bags will also be provided for 10 baht each, fashionable Neilson Hays totes at 350 baht or we encourage vistors to bring their own bags in order to help us reduce waste.

 

If you have any unwanted books to contribute to the sale, please drop them off at the library between 9:30am and 5:00pm Tuesday to Sunday, before the sale. All proceeds go towards the upkeep of our landmark building and our educational and arts programs.

SAKON PROJECT by Sakon Phu-Ngamdee is a series of oil paintings portraying the artist’s impression on the things around him, whether it is buildings, cityscapes, floras and faunas, natural landscapes, conversations between friends, and the issues going on in society. The artist uses vivid colors to create objects that have been minimized to just symbolic forms and combines realistic and surrealistic types of art together.
