Not only will the expansion of the MRT, Bangkok’s underground train line, save you time sitting in traffic or braving the heat on foot, it will also reveal exciting new landmarks waiting to be explored. Four unique new stations are set to pop up later this year, each boasting a mix of art and architecture that reflects the rich heritage of Bangkok’s Old Town and we’re most excited about Wat Mongkon station, located in the heart of Chinatown. Right from the elegant Sino-Portuguese exterior, this station promises an East-meets-West style in keeping with the area’s melting pot of culture. You’ll be able to get a taste of the history of the community through wall art and sculptures that depict important symbols in Chinese cultures such as the lotus and dragon, along with splashes of red and gold, colours considered lucky in Chinese tradition. Don’t forget to look up while using the escalator or stairs, as one of the highlights of this station will be a minimalist art installation that mimics the belly of a dragon.
