From Chinatown to Sathorn: How ASAI Stays in Character

As Team ASAI gets ready to unveil our second location – ASAI Bangkok Sathorn opens its doors on 15 May 2023, following the popularity of ASAI Bangkok Chinatown – we’re thinking about the journey so far. ASAI is a unique hotel concept dedicated to bringing guests and locals closer together. Everything we do is rooted in community and connection, from our artworks to our shared spaces. 

So let’s take a look at the ways each location expresses our DNA individually and which parts of our character they share. 

What features does brand-new ASAI Bangkok Sathorn share with ASAI Bangkok Chinatown?

1. Both incorporate local culture into design

From the conception stage of both hotels, we’ve worked with the best local designers, artists and architects to weave aspects of the neighbourhood, location and culture into the design. 

If you explore the inspiration for ASAI Bangkok Chinatown in this article, you’ll discover how the stone bench and mural in reception evokes Chinese row houses, and how local artist Gong designed decorative curtains to divide the space while echoing Chinese lantern tassels. In Sathorn, a fabric collage created by textile design expert Awika Samukrsamen combines colour and texture to create a dreamscape of the neighbourhood. At Err: Urban Rustic Thai on the second floor, up-and-coming designer D’Jai sets the tone for laid-back dining with an abstract painting inspired by traditional homestyle Thai utensils and enamel plates. Through these collaborations, we’ve infused both ASAI Bangkok Chinatown and Sathorn with the authentic flavours of the neighbourhoods while growing and strengthening our community and spotlighting local talents.

1. Brand new bunk rooms sleep 4

While room sizes at ASAI Sathorn are a little smaller than Chinatown, Sathorn introduces bunk rooms! Perfect for your travelling gang, these brand new rooms (not available at Chinatown) sleep four friends in two sets of bunks.

2. Street meets keep catch-ups casual

While Sathorn has none of the meeting rooms that Chinatown has, the street-front lounge is a great place to get together. At Sathorn, you can meet on the street for a casual brainstorm or catch up with drinks. At Chinatown you can book a fully equipped space for a more formal meeting.

3. Neighbourhood vibes

Simply put, there’s a different energy.
